Does anybody have a handle on whey protein supplementation? The ACE manual discourages it (page 129) but an article in Ace Fitness Matters magazine(Sept/Oct '07) titled "Nutrient Intake and Timing for Resistance Training," the use is supported. Also, there is ASCM support for its use, but you've got to search to find it.
I use whey protein supplementation myself, but only within 30 minutes following resistance training. I get adequate protein in my daily diet, so I'm just looking for a quick recovey benefit and not a dietary supplementation. I don't use it on cardio days.
The text probably doesn't support it because they are so gun shy of recommending anything -- any kind of supplement! A thought: why don't you contact the dietician organization that the book recommends in the nutrition section? At the moment I do not have access to the book, so I do not recall the name!
