His name is Joe Matesi and he is an Certified Athletic Trainer, CSCS, and Certified club coach for United States of America Weightlifting. I trained under him for 4 years and in that time competed in 3 Olymipc lifting events with 5 other members on Team Alaska. I hung around the gym so much that he would have to run me off or even put me to work showing proper technique to his clients lol, first learning experience with training, and I ablolutely knew what I wanted to to for the rest of my life. Although it took me another 10 years to get here, I am here none the less and I owe my passion solely to my experience with him as my strength coach ..... Thanks Joe

no he doesn't train anymore as far as I know...the last I heard he was working as an EMT, and spending most of his time at his cabin fishing..what a shame he has so much to offer, but not everybody has the same appreciation for his knowledge that I do.

it is hard to say really...it was just my first real training experience and it had a major impact on me and gave me a different perspective on training.
for instance one day a guy we will call tom came into the gym and approached Joe for training...Tom had a chance (he thought) to make the Michigan Wolverines football team. The head coach had told him that if he could put on 30+pounds of muscle before summer was over he would make the team hahahaahaha of course both me and Joe knew that without steroids that was impossible but the guy really believed the coach and seemed like he was going to give it his all. There was also one major issue that was standing in his way...he had never lifted before and still had to learn proper form before even lifting at an intensity that would potentially pack on any real dense muscle(this was the first guy I ever trained, I was 17 years old). So to wrap up the story I spent the rest of the summer working on the basics and helping him realize that the coach was just saying that to keep from having to tell him that there was no way he was going to play lol, but what I learned is the reality about training and the ignorance of the general public and that really inspired me to want to know more about what was real and what was myth in the training world, and I really haven't stopped reading every since(even when I wasn't training and being lazy I still studied). So I guess what Joe really inspired in my is my thirst for training knowledge and with the hands on experience that I had with teaching proper form to people with no knowledge of exercise, I had found something that I could share with others that I absolutely love doing.
