Well, I did my CPR/AED class this morning and so I was able to book my exam as soon as I got home. I just received the confirmation email tonight (was at my daughter's Tae Kwon Do tournament when it was sent.... it was a "fun" tournament, low pressure type thing).
So wish me luck, it'll be August 14th at 8:00 AM about an hour from where I live so I'll be getting up super early to get out there to avoid any traffic. I'd rather get there will lots of extra time rather than be stressing out in traffic.
I'm looking forward to finally taking it, hopefully all will go as I want it to. I'll have exactly 2 months from tomorrow, so I'll just try to find a good balance between review and not OVER reviewing so that I get too burned out.
My plan is to just rotate between materials each day, a little bit of text review, test questions from various sources on any given day (exercise etc., the printed practice test and home study questions, and I'll be ordering the online practice test too in the near future), anatomy, program design stuff for various scenarios and all the other stuff.
I'm going to try to fight my normal tendency to over do it though, because I tend to want to study all the time in order to keep my mind from thinking "about" the test, but I know if I do too much each day that'll just burn me out and make everything all jumbled up in my brain :)
How exciting! I'm sure you will do great! How was the CPR/AED class? I have taken several throughout the years, but haven't done it in in a long time. Where did you go for yours? I think I'm going to go through the Red Cross to do mine.
Also, how did your daughter do in her tournament? Did she do sparring or forms or both? Before I moved, my husband and I did Tae Kwon Do for a few years and haven't found a place to train here. I miss it, but I don't miss having my body falling apart. LOL!

Hi Denise,
First, thanks for you confidence in me re: the test. I do feel like I'll be really ready, I just need to take my time and focus on one question at a time and hopefully all this studying will pay off. :)
I did the class at the Red Cross in Nashville and it was my first time doing it. The instructor was really good and had a good sense of humor which I appreciated since it was long and pretty intense. I was wearing shorts which meant my knees were really raw from all the CPR practice (next time I've got to remember to "wear sweat pants!" :)).
I did well on the little tests we had to take, only got 2 out of 30 questions wrong which wasn't too bad since I really wasn't feeling very well (fighting a cold) and my concentration wasn't at it's best (plus general test anxiety). It was three short 10-question tests, very similar to the ACE multiple choice format. You could get up to 2 wrong out of each 10 and still pass.
I didn't feel too bad about not getting it all perfect since one of the other students, who is a nurse, got at least one wrong for sure on the first 10 questions due to test anxiety.
I have to admit that as foolish as it sounds, I was a bit anxious since I knew I couldn't even "book" my test without getting the CPR done :)
I know I've mentioned this on the ACE board, but this whole process has really made me aware of how much "inner" work I have to do (re: stress/anxiety etc.) and I'm using some really great books that are helping me with it. It's a slow process (to undo 48 years of mental knots) but I'm determined to start untying those knots permanently for more than just this whole certification process. My wife has been amazing through all of this as well as my kids in terms of supporting me and understanding all the time I'm spending studying! :)
My daughter's Tae Kwon Do tournament went well. It had a super low turnout but she still had fun. Her and this other girl she sparred with are very friendly, still they tried to beat the heck out of each other and both were limping around after and "high-fiving" each other. My daughter won the sparring part but got a little confused during the patterns, though she still did really well. I'm just happy she keeps doing it, I think it's especially great for a girl to know how to defend herself and it's great for fitness.
My son, who is going into high school next year and is a football player, I'm not as worried about. He's already pretty big (not heavy, just getting tall) and trains all year so I feel he's less vulnerable overall compared to my daughter.
Well, we're going to head to the rec center pool for father's day. My wife and kids got me a really nice smoothie maker for Father's day. I make 2 smoothies each day and our blender is still working but they thought it would be nice to have an "official" smoothie maker!
Scott, that is so exciting!!! You are going to do really well, I know it.
Thanks Nora,
I hope you're right! :)
Whatever happens, the outcome won't be from lack of effort on my part, I just need to stay present and try not worry about it.
I find when I'm studying I'm fine, when I think about the test then I start w/ the anxiety.
It helps me to know that you went thru a lot of the same stuff when you took the test and that you got thru it okay! That makes me feel that even if I have the anxiety that the studying will help me pull thru!
Ultimately though, I want to use this time to learn how to deal with my negative emotional stuff (self doubt, anxiety etc.) so I can not have it as part of my psyche anymore. That would be the greatest accomplishment of all of this!
Scott- Great, nice to know the day is set. I think you'll pass with flying colors. I was just using your calculation summary this morning- very helpful. I'm still trying to be ready to take the test by late July- They only offer it every other month at the center, so it may be September. Last few weeks I was studying less due to my sons yr-end school/ sports activities also!

Hi Vonnie,
Thanks for the positive vibes re: the test, I think I'll be okay, it's just one of those "unknown" type deals. I've done well on all the practice type tests including the ACE online diagnostic test, but I still make mistakes from time to time which I need to clean up before test day. At this point I'm using the exercise etc disk daily, sometimes I'll even just do 5 questions from each section to keep up my "test technique" :)
I'm trying not to overdo it on most days because I want to keep my studying balanced. As the test gets close then I'll spend more and more time focused on the tests.
I'm glad that formula summary came in handy. I have actually done several more summaries, maybe I'll post them over here. I didn't want to oversaturate the ACE board w/ them. :)
I'm going to try to upload them here as attachments because I do a lot of underlining and "bold" type on the originals (as well as table formats) and then when I copy and paste them all that is gone which makes it awkward to deal with.
Let us know when you know about your testing date. I was hoping to get mine done a little bit earlier than the date I have because my son's high school football stuff really starts to kick in that week. In fact they have a scrimmage the day after my test and the whole football thing is enough of an emotional thing to deal with since it's a very competitive school and division.
