hello from akyoda

well I am glad to see that you got this thing figured out Tekva...Glad to be here.
Ok so a little backround info on me...I live in Fairbanks, Ak I moved here from a bush village (Fort Yukon) when I was 15, that is when it all started for me.  After I enrolled in high school I joined the football team then the wrestling team then my wrestling coach introduced me to a USAW certified club coach under whom I trained and competed for 4 years(that is when the lifting bug really bit), but after I quite competing and graduated from high school I really got lazy and started to party too much and then came the part of my life we'll call the "injury struggles"
I had lost all external rotation in my left shoulder due to a pinched nerve(1st surgery) then a year after that I herniated a disk in my lumbar and could not walk for 6 months (boring let me tell ya) then 3 epidurals later and 4 months of physical therapy I could get around again (notice i just said GET AROUND and not with normal function) this led to sciatic damage and loss of control of my right glute, severe hamstring and triceps surae(calve muscles) cramps, which as some of you might have already picked up on severely weakened my right knee. which leads up to the next pain in my arse.....2 knee surgeries 5 months apart to remove my right lateral miniscus which had wrapped up behind my ACL when I dislocated it..twice(the second disslocation was 2 weeks after the 1st surgery lol what luck) this led to 8 months of physical therapy of which I made the best use of sitting om my behind my earning my Certified Fitness Trainier through ISSA then my ACE Personal Trainer Cert.  It has been a trying road but the upside to it all was I have a pretty good understanding of shoulders, knees, and the lumbo pelvic complex. lol  not too mention that I got to pick the brains of physical therapists, athletic trainers and Sports Med Doctors.  Sounds like a hard story but really I wouldn't have it any other way, as it is the reason I have chosen to renew my passion for fitness and to help others to prevent what were preventable injuries to me.
Just to lighten the story a bit I just finished my annual 12 mile hiking/camping trip with an 85 pound back pack with no back, shoulder, or knee pain and my last surgery  was December 26, 06....just 5 months before my first annual hike.

So let this serve as a reminder of what we as trainiers can not only do for ourselves but also inspire in others!!!

WOW, AK, what a STORY!!!!  You are going to be such an inspiration to your clients...heck, you're an inspiration to ME!!!  Good grief, what you went through, but the silver lining is that you can really pep talk your clients with just your own story!  Great pic, too!!!  It's so neat to put a face with the name.  Glad you got over here.

Hey Shawn,

We spent a week in Anchorage a couple of years ago and we all fell in love with it!  My son and his group had a 12 hr layover in Anchorage on Sunday night (keep in mind that their bodies were still on Eastern time) so my son took them to Flattop Mtn.  They only did about 1/2 way and  came down about midnight (local time).  Half the group are in Ambler and the other half are in Shungnak. (Aaron is in Shungnak)

Well, I just signed up for the online practice test, so I'll take that tonight and see exactly what I need to study.  Thanks for offering to help.  I feel blessed with this board.  I read ACE discussion but only asked question one time.  This is all new to me.  I've never been involved in any online discussion, so I feel more comfortable now that I know who I'm talking to.   :)

Just remember Jan, we were all where you are. So no question is too silly to ask, it would only be silly not to ask.  We are all here to help each other.

(Sorry...Ya'll get the "southerrn expressions"...I write just like I talk....unfortunatly)  :)
