Floored by an email from a friend (re fitness)

I have a friend I have not seen in ten years, although we have kept up via email.  She knows I've been studying for the ACE exam and she wrote, and said (condensing):  Congratulations on passing the exam.  I know how you love to jump into the fray with all the excitement of a five year old, but remember that you are not five years old, you are aging, and at our ages, we really are just a creaky bag of bones, so don't hurt yourself."

To say I sat and gaped at the computer would not be an understatement.  People actually believe after you reach a certain age you're finished and you may as well let it all go.

My sister sort of compounded that this evening by saying, "I think that when you get older, you just need to get old.  That's the natural order of things, and there's grace in that."

EXCUSE ME?!  There is NO grace in letting yourself get decrepit!  I'm amazed!

hahahhahahaahhaaha don't let it bother you!!!! that is exactly the kind of ignorance that drives me...and I hope it does you too. I hear that kind of talk from my dad all the time when I try to get him to walk or use my rower or let my write him up a workout. He says"I am too old for that" he is only 60 give me a break!!

I tell him that the difference between being active and "growing old gracefully" is whether you want to be bed ridden or independent through your 80's and that always quiets him down and gets him back on the treadmill and stability ball hahahaha reality is the best motivator

people need to remember that "if you dont use it you lose it" and if you are sitting around at 60, all you are going to be able to do at 80 is sit around and not by choice, so get out and live for the next 20-30 years instead of sitting and waiting for 20-30 years
