training professional football players!!!

Wow I just ran into my physical therapist that helped me with my knee and he is now part owner in our new indoor football team...as I am a team sponsor I started to talk to him about changing my sponsorship conract a little and we got into talking about training as he is a Physical Therapist and CSCS certified I didn't think that he would be interested in outside strength coaches...I WAS WRONG and I have never been so happy to be wrong.  He told me that if I took the USA Weightlifting's Performance Enhancement Coach certification that he would send ALL OF HIS PLAYERS TO ME!!!! WOOO HOOOO now all I have to do is pay to fly to the nearest location this summer and spend 2 days for 8 hours with Olympic Weighlifitng Coaches and then take an exam and violla I am In like Flynn with  Professional Athletics as a Strength Coach man I am excited.  I probably wont be able to take the class for a month or two but there season is only ending on the 28th of june so that will still give me their whole offseason to train PRO ATHLETES I can't believe that this might actually happen for me I am so unbelievably excited!!

Keep your head up people and don't be shy about talking to anyone about your passion as you never know who holds your next opportunity... biggrin

Hey, Congrats on that!!!!thumbsup.gif

My son's dream is to play pro football. He's just entering High School, but he has been playing football for many years and training since he was 13 years old at a place called Velocity Sports Performance. Velocity trains athletes from the NFL, College, and younger athletes as well.

I think it's awesome that you'll get to work with athletes who are highly motivated and trying to reach peak performance!

Best of luck with it and again, congrats!clap.gif

well my trip is booked Las Vegas on the 7th of July class on the 8-9 then leave on the 10th to go to Colorado Springs to go hiking on Pikes Peak.

the coaching coarse directly precedes the NSCA conference and also the IDEA World Fitness Symposium is the 8-12 but at $250-300 per day just for a pass to the symposium I can't afford that and more days in the Hotel so I am kind of bummed out about being there and not going but after I get back and start training football players I should be able to go next year

whew talk about a full schedule I have to set up a booth at the last Grizzlies game on the 28th of June then get ready to go white water rafting on the 3 - 6 of July then Vegas on the 7 - 10 then hiking in Colorado on the 10 - 15th then out to the bush village where I grew up (Fort Yukon,AK) for my Grandparents 65th wedding anniversary and family reunion.

and some time during all this I have 2 more certifications to complete.
ISSA's Specialist in Performance Nutrition
IYCA Youth Fitness Specialist level 1
and also still finish a CEC
J.C. Santana's Functional Training Breaking the Bonds of Traditionalism
then start college on the 21st of august

what a summer I am having!!!! I haven't been this productive in a long time lol

Hi Shawn,

Velocity is amazing, the best investment we can make in our son, even if just for his health (besides the sports performance benefits)!

My son is in such incredible shape from going there for all these years. He always trains there during the off season from Football and it's such a great positive experience for him in so many ways. In fact, as of now (he's only just about to turn 15) he's already focused on wanting to study Exercise Science type stuff in college.

If he has it his way he'll play football in College and then professionally, but either way he knows that Football careers are generally very short and he's got to do something else with the rest of his life. I'm just glad that as a teenager he's into such a healthy mindset and has had the advantage of training with the Velocity folks.

He's also lucky that his high school has great trainers also. He's already been training there for several months and they are doing a great job. They are pushing them but are taking into consideration that these kids are upcoming freshman, not Seniors, and training them accordingly.

Good luck w/ your Sports Performance Coach Training, that's so cool that you're going to do that sort of thing!!!! :)

Take care,

Scott
