well there are some similarities but all together ISSA has a lot more to do with programing and manipulating the strength curve.
while anyone can pass the ISSA exam as it is an open book test you do have to write quite a few essays and that is where it shows whether you have been studying and comprehend the materials or not. You will also have to write from scratch a complete program for two people and give your reasoning behind every choice you made.
as far as passing it in a month...anything is possible it just depends on how determined you are but at the most 2 months if you put enough study time in

they are currently in the final stages of an accreditation but not by the NCCA because it is ISSA's belief that an accredited test is not an accredited program and you shouldn't be able to just study for the test but the test should show your depth of knowledge of the materials
this is the reason I have an ACE cert...accredited, but I still feel that ISSA is a high quality certification all though neither ACE or ISSA are on the level of NASM.
I have just enrolled in the Higher Education program on the NASM site they have partnered with an online college in Pennsylvania the program is a B.S. in Sports Management with an emphasis in Fitness and Wellness and in the process of earning my degree I also earn an NASM cert so I kill 2 birds with one stone. There are also M.S. programs.
here is the link if anyone is interested http://www.nasm.org/highered/default.aspx?id=308 I have my first semesters books and I have to say I am a little intimidated but excited also.

here is a statement posted on the ISSA question board about the NCCA accreditation and ISSA's position on it. this was posted by Patrick Gamboa
"Patrick M. good afternoon I hope you are well and having a great Thursday thus far. With regard to your question, we have not pursued NCCA accreditation as they are not recognized by the United States Department of Education:
you will find DETC who the ISSA is currently pending final approval and can be found listed at:
http://detc.org/new_applicants.html
We hope this helps. "
if you have any more questions regarding ISSA I will be more than happy to answer and if I feel I am not qualified to answer I will post the question on the ISSA board for an appropriate answer.
remember as I said earlier ISSA was the best place for ME to start for what I was looking for
